ROO’S FOOTY UPDATE

So here we are, it will be 204 days since our last senior game, that being the men’s A-grade Premiership, and in what sometimes feels like a flash, and at other times feels like forever, Round 1 is upon us at senior level and I can’t wait for it to kick off!

After what can only be described as a fantastic season last year, we now become the hunted, but as all good Clubs do, they thrive on being the best, being number 1, and develop a hunger and motivation to remain there and reap all of the rewards and great times that come with that mantle.

The hard work has been put in over the summer months in preparation for what lies ahead, so I want to sincerely thank everyone involved both on & off field over the off-season to get us to where we are right now – you’re all a credit to yourselves.

Good luck to all of our players, coaches and support staff for not only tomorrow, but for the season ahead. I have no doubt that you will be representing the red & gold with pride and giving it everything you have at every opportunity.

To our loyal and passionate supporters who are a massive part of our Roo’s family, we hope you can make it out to either the men’s games at home or the women’s games at Happy Valley and cheer on our players with plenty of Roo’s gusto to get them over the line.

Exciting times ahead as we begin out journey for 2022.

If not before, I’ll see you at the footy!

MEN – Pre Season
Coaches Report

With the 2022 season upon us we are looking forward to the challenge of Division 3 against higher ranked opponents.

The preseason has gone relatively well however we (like all clubs) have experienced the disruptions of players contracting COVID or being close contacts. We are coming into the season with a playing roster of about 85 players which will see us once again fielding 3 senior sides. The coaching team has remained the same as last year other than the C-Grade coaching role where Nick Shanks will focus on administrative club activities, marketing and sponsorship and Binga Crosby taking over the C-Grade coaching duties.

We have also added past player Greg Pelgrave to the team as match day statistician. There has been quite a turnover of players with the A-Grade seeing a number of premiership players depart the club through retirement, work relocation and a few seeking new opportunities elsewhere. That said, we have been busy recruiting new players to offset the departures and to this, I am confident we have retained and built a playing group that will see us being very competitive in Division 3.  The playing group is fit and very united. Training has been of a high standard and I’m really impressed by the players constantly seeking feedback and wanting to improve.

To our sponsors and supporters, thank you for your unconditional support. We love seeing you at our games and we are determined to make match day an enjoyable experience. We want to play entertaining and attacking football with passion and spirit. The aim is to consolidate our status in Division 3, make the finals and aspire to go back to back. Look forward to seeing you around the club.

WOMEN – Pre Season
Coaches Report

After winning premierships in both the A grade and B grade the focus of the league will be on us and we need to be able to rise to this challenge. Pre season numbers have built nicely with plenty of new faces who will bring not only their football abilities but also add to the culture of the club. There have been some good news stories with Renee Roberts returning after two years of injury and after being on an AFLW list and travelling around Australia Bri Walling has returned to our wonderful club.

Pre season has been tough but the attitude in which the players have attacked it shows that we are hungry again to be successful. Bailey and Ben have been amazing in the support and ability to help players learn and develop in their abilities and game sense. With such great support around me I am extremely confident that the players will get better with every game and session.

We feel well placed to attack division one again this year and ensure that we remain at the top of our game. As coaches we are blessed to be able to coach an amazing group of people that make our jobs enjoyable and rewarding. We look forward to hitting the ground running tomorrow in round one against Happy Valley and then build into our season.

JUNIORS Pre Season

I would like to say a warm hearted thank you to all the Morphettville Park Football Club Family for making me feel so welcome, the role of Junior Football Director at any club has its challenges but when you come into a new club the challenges are a little harder because I simply don’t know enough of you at this stage, this will happen in time and the demanding role will become easier. I know if we work together in time we will have the success our club desires.

We have nominated teams in the U7s, U9’s, U11s, U13s and U13, U15 girls. This is not to say that if we have an influx of numbers we still can add a side to any competition. We are certainly in need of some girls in U13s. If you know of any interested players please let me know so I can follow them up.

As for training our two girls sides have been training with Ben Taylor taking the girls, I personally witnessed Ben with the girls and can only speak so highly of him, his commitment, enthusiasm and encouragement of his players can be measured by the smiles and enjoyment and the respect he receives from his players. Ben will eventually coach our U13s, so I am in search for a coach for our U15 girls, and again without knowing everyone it is hard to approach someone, If you have a passion to coach or can help out please make contact with me.

Also I am looking for a coach for our U7s & U9s all coaches will have the full backing of the club and will get unlimited support from me.

I am pleased to announce that Jason Elliot will be our U11s coach and training commenced tonight at 5.30.

Rod Campbell has again accepted the role of coach for our U13s and I know the club wishes him all the best for the up coming season.

AusKick has seen us have 21 registered participants and the enjoyment and fun they are having is a real credit to Bayley and Jarred the 2 main coaches, they have been doing a fantastic job in creating a fun and exciting experience for all, a huge thank you to both.

Our club has been languishing with numbers over the past years and I know I will challenge and be committed to make the right choices so our club will grow and become a destination club and a community club of choice for all boys and girls.

Once again thank you for the welcome and I look forward to meeting you all on game days
